The 2025 Silk Route begins a new journey. It does so with its official launch, the official presentation from the historic College of High Silk Art, an emblematic site that symbolizes centuries of trade, culture, and artisanal excellence. A 15th-century building that houses a wealth of heritage and is one of Valencia's icons.
The Valencian event, which has a social, sporting, and cultural aspect, is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, with the collaboration of the Ibizan club Es Nàutic, the Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda, and Advanced Sails, mainly. The event will set sail this coming Thursday, October 9th, coinciding with the Valencian Community's big day. The fleet of 27 boats is once again fully booked.
The event was attended by Luis Cervera, Director General of Sport for the Valencian Regional Government; Gonzalo Julián Orduña, President of the College of the Major Art of Silk; Nacho Ortí, of Advanced Sails; Andrés Arlandis, President of the RCN Valencia, accompanied by his Board of Directors, among other dignitaries.
During the presentation, everyone emphasized the importance of this event, not only as a sporting competition, but also as a symbol of cultural connection and respect for maritime history. The Silk Route also seeks to promote the connection between two cities: Valencia and Sant Antoni de Portmany, emphasizing the preservation of traditions and the dissemination of historical heritage.
Andrés Arlandis, in his turn to speak, expressed his gratitude for the support of the Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda (College of High Silk Art), "not only for providing an incomparable setting for the launch of the Silk Road, but also for contributing that legacy and history that now, with this event, aims to commemorate that trade route and the importance it had for the city of Valencia." He also emphasized the importance of "the support of institutions, such as the Valencia City Council, the Generalitat (Generalitat), the Island Council of Ibiza, Sant Antoni de Portmany, as well as technical collaborators such as Advanced Sails, among others, because without them it would be very difficult to carry it forward."
On the sporting front, he noted: "Once again, the Silk Road event has been very well received by members, which is why we had to put up the full poster just 15 days before the official start of the event."
Gonzalo Julián Orduña, for his part, said: “It is a great honor to once again host the presentation of the Silk Road regatta." He also wanted to highlight the participation in this edition "The number of boats has doubled from 2024, so a very exciting future awaits us, we have managed to exceed the numbers year after year." He closed his speech by thanking everyone. "Congratulations to all the participating teams and to the people from Valencia and Sant Antony de Portmany who make this journey possible, which unites our most important pillars: History, Culture, Tradition, Sport and Fun."
Luis Cervera closed the event and in his speech he highlighted that: “The Silk Road unites seas and cultures, sailing not only through water, but through history. It is perhaps the best summary of what this sporting and cultural event represents, promoted and organized by the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, with the backing and support of the Colegio del Arte Mayor de la Seda,” adding that “having the opportunity, once again this year, to present this adventure in this incomparable setting of history and tradition makes the Silk Road a prominent and relevant event not only for Valencia but also for the Valencian Community, which also brings us even closer, if possible, to Ibiza and Sant Antoni de Portmany,” he concluded.
The Silk Route Regatta aims to become a benchmark, combining sport, tourism, history, and culture, placing Valencia and the College of the Highest Art of Silk at the epicenter of a legendary journey.
The College of the High Art of Silk, with its centuries-long history linked to trade and artisanal excellence, thus becomes the ideal starting point for a regatta that transcends the sporting aspect and reminds us that the oceans have always been paths of encounter, exchange, and discovery.
