Alberto del Pino Rivera, new delegate for the ports of Ibiza and La Savina

The appointment of a new delegate and an investment plan worth more than 100 million euros mark a new chapter for the ports of general interest in the Pityusic Islands.

The Balearic Port Authority (APB) has appointed a new delegate to head the ports of Ibiza and La Savina, as part of its strategy to strengthen port management and advance strategic projects in the ports of general interest of the Pityusic Islands.

The new delegate, Alberto del Pino Rivera, is a civil engineer specialising in roads, canals and ports, with more than 25 years of experience in international port projects. His appointment, following a public selection process, reflects the APB’s intention to provide these ports with a highly qualified technical profile capable of leading current challenges in infrastructure, sustainability and port-city integration.

With a solid background in the maritime infrastructure sector, the new delegate takes on the challenge of consolidating modern and efficient management, aimed at guaranteeing service quality and balancing the different port uses in an environment that is particularly demanding from both an operational and territorial point of view.

Alongside this organisational reinforcement, the APB has defined an ambitious investment plan for the Port of Ibiza, with a total allocation of €104.31 million for the 2026–2029 period. This programme represents a strong commitment to the modernisation of infrastructure, the improvement of mobility and progress towards a more sustainable port model better integrated with the city.

Among the most significant actions is the development of the Ibosim seafront promenade, conceived as a transformative project that will include public participation processes and improvements to road access to the Botafoc area in order to reduce congestion. Works are also planned on the Botafoc breakwater and several quays, as well as the construction and adaptation of key infrastructure such as the shipyard, new parking areas and the future Ibiza–La Savina passenger terminal.

The plan also includes measures aimed at environmental sustainability, such as the implementation of OPS systems to allow shore power supply for berthed vessels and reduce emissions, as well as the modernisation of essential networks such as drinking water. Overall, it is a package of measures structured into various projects with defined budgets and timelines that will strengthen operational capacity and improve the quality of port services.

Another key focus is the promotion of nautical and sporting activity, with plans to tender a long-term concession for the management of the facility for small and medium-sized vessels located at the Ribera-Poniente quay in the Port of Ibiza, commercially known as Port Nautic Ibiza. This initiative aims to encourage disciplines such as sailing and canoeing, promote training and social activities, and consolidate the port as a benchmark for social responsibility within the sector.

The APB has also noted that the progress of some strategic investments remains subject to the final approval of the Special Plan for the Port of Ibiza, which is currently being processed. This instrument is key to unlocking essential projects and advancing the integration of the port with the urban environment.

In terms of activity, the Port of Ibiza continues to play a central role in the island’s connectivity and supply chain, handling more than 90% of all goods. In the cruise sector, the planning of 205 calls for 2026 includes specific measures to organise passenger flows and ensure operations remain compatible with regular traffic, guaranteeing a suitable experience for both port users and workers.

With the appointment of the new delegate and the rollout of the investment plan, the APB is beginning a new chapter in the ports of Ibiza and La Savina, aimed at strengthening their efficiency, sustainability and service capacity, while continuing to generate value for Ibiza and Formentera as a whole.
