The President of the Balearic Government, Margalida Prohens, announced at FITUR the sensorisation of 150 beaches across all the islands and an investment of four million euros over the next two years, aimed at improving sustainability, information and the overall experience for both residents and visitors.
DID YOU LIKE THIS CONTENT? WELL... YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!This project will make real-time data on beach conditions available and will form the basis of a pioneering application, set to be operational in the second quarter of the year, and integrated into the Balearic Islands Digital Twin project. Through this app, users will be able to check information such as beach occupancy, water temperature and flag status, helping to achieve a more balanced distribution of visitor flows and more informed decision-making.
The President highlighted that this tool is key to moving towards a tourism model based on containment, sustainability and quality. She also announced the launch of a tourism data web platform, open to public administrations, citizens and operators, which will enable destination management based on shared and accurate information.
Within this context of modernisation and improved coastal management, the Balearic Islands have recorded the best low and mid-season in their history in the domestic market, with 741,000 visitors between November and March, 12.5% more than the previous year. At the same time, arrivals during the peak tourist months, especially July and August, have been contained.
According to Prohens, these results confirm that the archipelago is moving towards a model in which “tourists are seeking quality and a better experience”, a trend also reflected in the increase in average daily spending per person, which in 2025 stood at €113.26.
At FITUR, under the slogan “Where culture beats”, the Balearic Government reaffirmed its commitment to a tourism model that combines innovation, sustainability and diversification, in which beaches remain a central element, now managed with technology, data and a forward-looking vision.
