A large Balearic fleet heads to the Spanish Optimist Nationals

A team from the Balearic Sailing Federation, composed of 20 sailors representing Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Club de Vela Port d’Andratx, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, Club Nàutic s’Estanyol, Club Nàutic s’Arenal, Real Club Náutico de Palma, and Reial Club Nàutic del Port de Pollença, is set to compete in the Spanish Optimist Cup taking place in waters of Murcia, organized by Club Náutico Mar Menor.

Following two days of measurements and a warm-up event known as the "Pre-Cup," the official opening ceremony will be held this Thursday evening, May 15th, in Los Alcázares Town Hall Square.

The 2025 Spanish Optimist Cup officially kicks off in Los Alcázares, gathering 155 young sailors and their technical teams from ten regional sailing federations and the autonomous city of Melilla. Mandatory boat inspections were conducted on May 14 and 15 to ensure compliance with Optimist class rules.

This evening’s opening ceremony at 7 PM will feature speeches from Los Alcázares Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera, Sports Councillor Pedro Pascual Lamas, Murcia Sailing Federation President Arturo García Pallares, Spanish Optimist Class Association President Joaquín Valero Pomares, and Club Náutico Mar Menor leaders Elena Lozano and Francisco Peñalver.

Following the ceremony, sailors, coaches, and officials will parade to the CNMM facilities for the symbolic hoisting of the Optimist class flag, officially launching a regatta expected to deliver three action-packed days of racing.

The racing area, located in the Mar Menor off the coast of Los Alcázares, will see Spain’s top young sailing talent compete in nine scheduled races across May 16th, 17th, and 18th, determining the national champions across different categories.

The 2025 Spanish Optimist Cup is organized by Club Náutico Mar Menor, with support from the Los Alcázares City Council, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV), the Murcia Regional Sailing Federation (FVRM), and the Spanish Optimist Class Association (AECIO), and is backed by numerous sponsors committed to grassroots sport and sailing promotion.
