30 youngsters join ‘Es Voluntaris de sa Badia’

A total of 30 youngsters will take part this year, along summertime, in the volunteering service of ‘Salvem sa Badia de Portmany’, with the objective of carrying out studies related to biodiversity, avoiding moorings over posidonia and participating in various training workshops, among other activities.

‘Es Voluntaris de sa Badia’ will be active for six weeks, until August 1st, with 5 youngsters each week. Every volunteer will receive workshops about marine biodiversity, nautical security and sailing. They will also take part in departures with zodiac, do snorkeling and submarine photography, and they will carry out surveys about residual management aboard and mooring regulation, with the aim to raise awareness and reduce the presence of ships over posidonia meadows. Along the week, the students will be accompanied by an environmental educator and a marine scientist.

For the launching of this volunteering service, ‘Salvem sa Badia’ counts with various collaborators, whom without their participation it would not be possible to keep up with the activity. In this sense, it is impossible to point out the input made by Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, that has given the ships with which the volunteers work.

Area’s establishments also contribute, giving different products for the daily snack of the participants, like Es Nàutic restaurant, Cap Blanc Aquarium, and Verduras Costa. Finally, it is also important to mention the collaboration with the final prize of the activity of Arenal Diving, with an initial diving contest, and Water Toys Team and Take Off, with their educational activities. Regarding the learning material, Ecolocaliza, Observadores del Mar, Naturales de es Vedrà, es Vedranell and Poniente islets give it out.
