The Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Guardia Civil in the Balearic Islands has sanctioned eight restaurants for violating regulations on the conservation and possession of shellfish. The cases have been referred to the Conselleria of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Consell Insular of Menorca and to the Conselleria of Health of the Balearic Government for the opening of the corresponding sanctioning proceedings.
The Sant Josep Town Hall presented this Monday, August 25th, at Cala Bassa beach, a new mechanized cleaning service with fine mesh, aimed at improving the environmental condition of the municipality’s natural beaches in response to the growing presence of waste such as microplastics, cigarette butts, glass, and wood debris.
The 61st Gran Día de la Vela – Bufete Frau has its first round of champions, with winners in the Optimist Sub11, Optimist D, iQFoil, and Techno 293 classes, after three intense days of racing in the waters of Palma Bay.
This exceptional modification was approved by the Co-Management Commission of Recreational Fishing of the Balearic Islands, following a proposal from the sector that supplies gear for raor fishing. The goal is to support traditional recreational fishing activities.
The 20th edition of the Palermo – Montecarlo, organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia in collaboration with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the Yacht Club de Monaco, brought together 45 boats ranging from 10 to 30 meters, representing nine countries, in a nearly 500-nautical-mile regatta that combined demanding sailing, luxury, and spectacular competition in the Mediterranean.
The Presidente Trophy at Club de Vela Port d’Andratx, held on August 21st and 22nd, marked the culmination of the summer Sailing School activities, bringing together young sailors of all ages for an exciting regatta. The event allowed the newest students to put into practice the skills learned during the summer course, while the club’s racing team members showcased their experience and expertise on the water.
The Balearic Canoeing Federation held the 3rd Race of the Balearic Sea Kayak Cup on Saturday, August 23, as part of the 30th Volta a les Illes Malgrats, with strong participation and a vibrant atmosphere at Santa Ponsa beach. The race began with a spectacular Australian-style start, where paddlers launched from the shore standing alongside their boats, challenging the gentle swell and southwest breeze.
On Sunday, August 24th, the ILCA U21 World Championship kicked off in the waters off Dublin, Ireland. Among the 212 participants, seven are from the Balearic Islands.
The Club de Vela Port d’Andratx made history in adaptive sailing by winning the gold medal at the inaugural RS Venture Connect European Championship, held from August 20 to 24 at the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club in Oslo.
Athletes Rafa Reyes (AD Ibiza Half Triathlon) and Susana Sevillano (CT Vas Mallorca) were the stars of the third race of the 2025 Aquathlon League, held on Sunday, August 24 at Platja d’en Bossa, under the iconic Torre de sa Sal Rossa in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia.
The final day of the Sprint and Paracanoe World Championships, held at Parco Idroscalo in Milan, was the perfect capstone to Spain’s outstanding performance over five days of competition. While Spanish paddlers had already won a total of six medals in the previous two days, two more were added on the final day.
