The competition brought together 65 boats in a regatta marked by difficult and unstable conditions, in which a total of seven races were completed with one discard, shaping the final standings in the different categories.
In the overall men’s and under-19 men’s category, Hugo Rodríguez, from Club Nàutic s’Arenal, and Diego Coronado, from Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, claimed victory. They were followed by brothers Aarón and Nicolás Montoya, also from CNA, while Nacho Sánchez and Alejandro Valero of RCR Alicante completed the podium.
In the under-17 men’s category, Nacho Sánchez and Alejandro Valero of RCR Alicante were crowned Spanish Cup champions, followed by Eduardo Navarro and Thomas Sánchez-Kormelink of RCR Alicante and Pau Casas and Pol David of CN El Balís.
In the overall women’s and under-19 women’s category, Elena López and Giulia Sandri of CN El Balís were crowned Spanish Cup champions, with Amalia Coll, from Club Nàutic s’Arenal, and Laia Serena Mattos, from Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa, in second place, and Lucía Sotomayor of RCN Barcelona and Anna Rentería of CN El Masnou in third. López and Sandri also dominated the under-17 women’s category, where Marta Mansito and María Sánchez of RCN Gran Canaria finished second, and Agnès Hadzi and Daniela García of CN El Balís third.
In the overall mixed category, Fernando Puig and Carolina Victoria Sánchez took the win, followed by Luis Wizner and Celia de la Fuente of RCN Vigo, while Miguel Ángel Méndez and Natalia Méndez took third place.
The results obtained in this Spanish Cup, together with those from the Spanish Championship, have shaped the national ranking and the composition of the Spanish team for the season’s major international events.
In the under-17 national A team, Ignacio Jerónimo Sánchez and Alejandro Valero from the Valencian Community, Elena López and Giulia Sandri from Catalonia, and Eduardo Navarro and Tomás Sánchez Kormelink from the Valencian Community have been selected.
Meanwhile, in the under-19 category, Spain will be represented by Asier Jáudenes, from the Real Club Náutico de Palma, and Juan Benítez, from the Reial Club Nàutic del Port de Pollença; Neus Fernández and Martina Gomila, both from Club Nàutic s’Arenal; and Miguel Padrón and Luis Mesa from the Canary Islands.
In addition, a broad class team has been defined to complete Spain’s representation at both the World and European Championships, with crews from the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Canary Islands, Andalusia and Galicia, reflecting the high level and wide competitive base of the 420 class in Spain.
The Spanish 420 Cup thus consolidates its role as one of the key events on the national calendar, not only because of its sporting level, but also because of its decisive role in shaping the teams that will represent Spain in the main international competitions.
